Businesses in Jefferson County

Jefferson County towns have long been vital centers of business from drugstores, barbershops, grocery stores and clothing stores to banks, newspapers, factories and car dealerships.

The following photographs from the Museum's collection show businesses inside and out primarily from the twentieth century. Some buildings such as Charles Washington Hall or the Ranson City Hall are still standing. Others like the Goetz's Harness Factory or Hilltop House Hotel have been demolished. And others, like Farmers and Merchants or Jefferson Security Banks, have been repurposed.
