60th Anniversary Exhibit Opening

When

April 4, 2025
5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The Jefferson County Museum celebrates the beginning of the 60th year with a special exhibit opening!

Be the first to see our newest exhibit featuring the early history of what is today Jefferson County, from the archaic period to the early republic era. Get tickets here.

This event will feature hors d’oeuvres, wine, beverages, and live music performance of 18th century songs by local Old-Time musicians, The Hickory Chickens.  All donations benefit the Museum.

This will be the first time on display for many of the artifacts in this exhibit, including a barrel from a Sheetz Rifle produced in Shepherdstown, a sampler made by Sarah Osbourn in the decades following the Revolution, an early copy of Notes on the State of Virginia, and a land grant signed by Thomas Jefferson. These rare documents will be displayed in a brand new light-limiting exhibit case, along with a letter written by George Washington after the death of his brother Charles.

This exhibit was made possible in part by a major grant from the West Virginia Humanities Council.
