Exciting news! Thanks to a recent donation from local resident Scott Coyle, the Museum now has an original barrel from a Sheetz rifle in the collection. The metal barrel has a silver inlay portion with the engraving "M Sheetz." The donor's research confirmed that it was a barrel made by Martin Sheetz c.1790, part of a family of Shepherdstown gunsmiths in the late 18th century. Saturday marked the anniversary of a dreadful accident in 1951 along Route 340 near Halltown, in which a truck carrying 14 tons of dynamite caught fire and exploded. One individual was killed, and a number of local homes and buildings damaged. These photos show the crater left in the road from the explosion, damage to nearby buildings and trees, and local Bobby Seagams with his foot on a piece of wheel that was among the debris thrown from the truck. ...
